The Troot Tour
The trout season opened on Wednesday 15th March. I had a couple of hours on the beautiful wee River Braan. Alas - no trout .... BUT the air was full of sound! Oystercatchers, curlews and lapwings in chorus, plus the occasional "Go back! Go back! Go back!" from red grouse in the heather. Magical! And in the blink of an eye it will be time for the annual Troot Tour!! Yippee!
The 2016 Troot Tour went well, with Gregor catching most troots (actually, our American pal Bart caught more, but was disqualified for using spinners!) We played at a couple of new venues and fished a couple of new lochs. Brilliant! And the weather was much better than last year! Catch total was around 118 trout - mostly very small!
Last year's Troot Tour was great craic, in spite of unseasonally cold and dreich weather. The catch was down on 2014, with 64 fish caught (and of course released!). These were mostly brown trout, but with a few sea trout AND a surprise salmon!
The tour is made possible by the willing and selfless support of the many people who help us out with venues, accommodation, transport and of course, fishing! Thank you all!
The Not Only Troot Tour!
A "Troot Tour" with a difference! My wee tour of the U.S. with Gregor Lowrey included some great fishing (of course), and not just "troots". In addition to rainbows, we caught flounder, bluefish, speckled trout, white bass, smallmouth bass and bluegill (I say "we", but Mr Lowrey did most of the catching!)
A big thank you all who made this adventure possible!

Sadly, Bruce left us for that great loch in the sky, November 2016. He will be missed by all who knew him.
